That's great. I feel the same way about running... well, except for the fact that I didn't actually start running until a year and a half ago. But it really is a great escape, a chance to get away and de-stress, if only for an hour or so. I make time for it.

I loved seeing that someone had a similar experience with running. I am just now starting to have my epiphany, after gaining too much weight since college and realizing that I've got a much better starting mindset already than someone who has never run. It's fun to see that someone else had running affect their high school experience as much as mine - I was never the greatest runner but did track (triple jump) and Cross-Counrty all through High School and the girls that were on my team are my greatest friends to this day!

I struggle with the "identity" thing myself. I try to remember though, what one of creative writing instructors from college would say -- that the requirement for being a writer is that you must write. Same thing for being a runner. Like you said, it doesn't matter if you win races, beat times, make a certain mileage per week, whatever. To be a runner, you just have to run.

That's so awesome. I need to have the same ephiphany about swimming, which was at one time, the greatest love of my life.
