It was so touching to read how well you are caring for your stepchildren. As someone whose stepmother unfortunately fits the typical stereotype, I always enjoying hearing about instances where that isn’t the case.

As a stepchild, I love to hear about the good step-moms! Everyone gets so focused on the stereotype. It’s not easy, but my Step-mom was always awesome. She became a great friend. The most touching moment, I think, was at my wedding shower where my Mom’s family made sure that she was treated just as equal a Mom as my birth Mom. It meant so much to her and to me.

I just love that you are parenting that little boy. This piece touched my heart in many ways, although I am not a step parent. The love you give those children will be given back a hundred-fold. I wish more people in the world had your and your husband’s generosity of spirit.

Yes! Yes! Yes! As a step-mom to a now-13 year old boy I know exactly what you are going through. DH & I often had the very same discussions regarding the difficulties of trying to parent a few days out of the month and altering the everyday behaviors we disapporoved of. And the “ask them, they’re rich” stuff? Yep, we’ve been there too. Thankfully we now have full custody of SS and while it’s been so much more challenging but more rewarding too. Great article!
