You know how it is – you want to listen to some music, but you’re sick and tired of all the stuff you have. Your favorite bands haven’t released anything new in forever, and you just want something new. But what? You could browse the iTunes music store, but then you only get a few seconds of each song, and how can you really judge?
Thankfully, you can just surf over to Pandora and type in your favorite artist and get your very own station with similar artists. It tells you why it picked the new artists, and you can give each track a thumbs up or thumbs down rating to guide subsequent picks. You do have to register to listen to more than a few songs, but it’s free.
To test it out, I created a Barenaked Ladies station. I’ve been a BNL fan since I was in college. First, Pandora gave me an old favorite – Falling for the First Time. Then, on to the new stuff – If You Don’t, Don’t by Jimmy Eat World. Yeah, I’ve been living under a rock (in the car, we listen to NPR or Noah’s kiddie music) but I’d never heard of these guys. But you know, I like it! And I certainly never would have thought to check them out. I also got selections from Old 97’s, Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Brightwings, Smash Mouth, Jack Johnson and many others. It’s my own radio station, based on my music preferences!
Even better, you can get Pandora in the Home and play your stations without having to turn your computer on! Or listen to Pandora on your Sprint mobile phone, wherever you are. Both of these options cost money, however.
So, go to Pandora. Find some new music. Read their blog. Check out the podcast. Then go spend some money on new music! And with this Pandora, you don’t have to worry about releasing the evils of mankind, just finding some cool new tunes.

How cool, thanks for sharing! I like a pretty narrow genre of music and it was fun to guide the choices.
