I'm still mentally kicking your ass for getting me to join it a couple of months ago. :p LOL about your dad being a Facebooker.

Great blog BTW. :) I always know I'll be entertained when reading something you wrote.

It was nice to reconnect with people I lost touch with after HS since I joined the Military, but now I am finding it to be a HUGE timesuck!

Thanks for the giggles this afternoon!

One of the STUDENTS at the college I work at kept bugging me about joining Face Book, which was enough for me to stay away. I really don't need students I need to supervise knowing too much about my personal life thankyouverymuch. And there's no MySpace in my future since all my former HS friends who I purposefully stopped talking to seem to be there. Give me anonymous user names with non-photo avatars any day!

Count me in as another that doesn't get it. How is it different than myspace (which I also don't get)? These things scare me-I don't want to be found. :P

MLA, once you're logged into Facebook, everybody has essentially the same user profile interface. You have a lot of freedom to change your privacy settings not only for people NOT on your friend list, but you can decide which friends get to see everything, and which ones get to see your limited profile.

As far as what the interface includes - you can upload photos (and organize them into albums), you have a "wall" where folks can post public messages to you (that only other friends on your list have access to, not the general public), there is the usual personal info, how old you are, who you're married to, what high school you went to - you don't have to answer these questions, but many do. Think of it as a high school reunion - "what you have been up to since I saw you last?" and the various answers that come with it.

There are several add-ons you can also place in your profile, such as favorite music, favorite books, movies I've seen, horoscopes...it's pretty broad and varied.

You can also post items, articles you've read, videos you want to share, etc. It's not so much a blog, but you can certainly treat it as one if you wish.

SO TRUE!!!

While I do find facebook to be a timesink its just too much fun searching and finding all of those love & hate people you used to know and who they all know; only to find that we are all somewhat connected.

I think facebook is great way just to stay in touch with the people you really like and makes it easy to occasionally say hi to people you normally wouldn't but you should. It makes it so simple to send that quick hey ya without having to independantly open a new email and start thinking of things to talk about; write to much and the other person thinks "Oh man now i have to write a bunch back.", write too little and risk the thought "Hrmm guess she doesn't have enough time for me". With Facebook its all right there, open your page and see the news feed on your friends and bam, oh Sally went to Montreal last week. (bling), "Hey Sally how was your trip?". Right there you made contact with that person without having to remember you should really email Sally, thinking of what to say, drafting an email and so on. That person still knows that you are thinking about them and that's really what it's all about.

I was reading an article last week commenting on the creator of facebook and that Facebook has been doubling in size every 3-6 months for the past 3 years which is twice as fast as myspace (ug) appraently it has 10 -15% of the population of Canada using it, a huge share of the United states and is just opening up to the U.K. Yahoo had offered a Billion dollars for it but the owners want to stay strong on their mission and believe that the majority of internet users in the world will be using it in 5-10 years. Scary. But I could see it.

Loved the article and it made me reconsider who I might want on my friends list. But most of all it made me laugh. Thanks.
