I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream SODAS! That’s right, today, Wednesday, June 20th, 2007, is Ice Cream Soda Day! So give a shout out to this frothy hot weather treat. Let’s face it, there are quite a few of us who have already been complaining about the sweltering temperatures that have plagued most of the United States. Why not use Ice Cream Soda day as the perfect excuse to take a break from the blistering heat?
The typical ice cream soda consists of ice cream, usually vanilla or chocolate, one can of pop (yes, I live in the Chicago area and that is what it’s called; soda for most of the rest of you), and a tall, wide-bottomed, frosted glass. Simply place 2-3 scoops of your favorite ice cream in the frosted glass, slowly pour one can of pop of your choosing over the top of the ice cream, and if you’re in a fancy mood, top off this mouthwatering treat with some whipped cream and a cherry. Then sit down with a straw and a teaspoon, dig in, and enjoy the ice cream soda’s chilling power.
For those of you who are watching your figures this Summer, replace regular ice cream with Dreyer’s Slow Churned Rich & Creamy or Ben & Jerry’s Lighten Up!, and substitute a regular can of pop with Coke Zero or Pepsi Jazz. I think that’s how I’ll be treating myself today…with two scoops of Ben & Jerry’s Lighten Up! Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and one can of Pepsi Jazz Black Cherry French Vanilla pop.
So what’s your poison? Share your ice cream soda concoctions with others. You might inspire them to try something new today.

I still remember the vanilla ice cream and strawberry soda floats my mom and I always made when I was little. They were so yummy! These floats are right up there among my fondest childhood memories.
