I thought I’d do a little something different to wrap up this season’s American Idol blog series. It is with great pleasure I present to you the Season 6 American Idol awards. Roll out the red carpet, ladies and gentlemen…
I’m giving “The Most Clean Scandalous Event” to Sanjaya for the night he sported the faux-hawk. “The Most Dirty Scandalous Event” award goes to Antonella Barba for the racy photos (link NSFW) that popped up on the internet shortly after her appearance on AI.
Every year there’s a few contestants that should get further in the competition than they actually do. This year was no exception. I’ve chosen Sabrina Sloan and Stephanie Edwards for the “Sorry You Went Home Too Early” award.
For those contestants who deserve to go further than they do, there’s someone taking their spot. This year’s “Waste of a Seat on the Tour Bus” award goes to none other than Sanjaya Malakar. With that said, without Sanjaya, this next award would not be possible.
The “WTF are You Smoking” award goes to Sanjaya’s biggest crying fan, Ashley.
Speaking of smoking, Paula Abdul seems to have eased up on the crack pipe this season (until she tripped over her dog and broke her nose). The “Thank You for Not Smoking” award goes to her. We have to give the lady some credit. Even though she didn’t utter one original thought this season, at least she seemed sober and displayed a record low number of emotional outbursts.
“The Most Gut Wrenching Moment” award is a tie. While the footage that was aired during Idol Gives Back was certainly emotional, it didn’t have the personal effect on me that one memorable audition did. Sherman Pore auditioning with his petition in order to fulfill his recently deceased wife’s last wish was a doozie. If you didn’t see it or would like to see it again, click here.
While I thought many of the guest vocal coaches this season gave sound advice and gentle guidance to the contestants, there’s one person that stood out to me. “The Best Celebrity Vocal Coach” of the season goes to Jennifer Lopez. Maybe it’s just because I was pleasantly surprised she had concrete suggestions despite her own lack of vocal talent (IMHO).
I’m going to give “The Best Dressed” award to Jordin Sparks and “The Worst Dressed” award of the season goes to Haley Scarnato. Lakisha Jones gets “The Wardrobe Malfunction” award for not one, but several performances throughout the competition.
I thought this year’s themes were all pretty lackluster. The “Hurry Up and Pick a Last Minute Theme” award goes to Bee Gee Night.
“The Most Improved” award goes to Phil Stacey.
If Akon counts as a guest performer, then his appearance with Gwen Stefani surely gets my vote for “The Worst Guest Performer” award. If saying “yee ha” and “woo hoo” in the microphone doesn’t count as a performance, then I’m going to have to give the award to Peter Noone during British Invasion week.
“The Eye Candy” award goes to 16 year-old Jenry Bejarano and Brandon Rogers. “The “You Make My Eyes are Burn” award goes to Mischa Reedy for her rendition of Dontcha during the
“The Most Overrated Contestant” award goes to Chris Sligh. I think it was part fro’ patrol that won the viewing public over during auditions.
I have to give the producers “The Bad Time Management” award. They just couldn’t get it right this season. Either they had to rush the performances during the final segment in order to accommodate all the Ryan-Simon flirting at the beginning of the night, or they cut people off during their sing off. The inconsistency was annoying. While I’m at it, they should really create more challenging questions for the American Idol Challenge text-in contest. On the other hand, I have to give them props for their first Idol Gives Back installment.
Thanks for reading along this season and all the bloggy love you’ve given. For the last time. Southerner. Out.

Love the awards!! Wonder if we’ll see anything similar on the finale this year?
