Standards night could have been worse. I agree that Melinda was the best (plus, I thought her hairdo was the best she’s had so far) Sanjaya dancing with Paula was more frightening than the faux-hawk. Someone needs to tell Phil that he looks like a serial killer with that bald head. Seriously - last night looked like he was performing at the prison talent show. Scary!

When Simon tried his “reverse psychology” on Sanjaya (”It was excellent! Well done!”) and Sanjaya started shouting, “Welcome to the universe of Sanjaya, Simon!” I almost jumped through the tv screen. What an idiot.

Oh, I love standards night, but then again, I am a huge standards fan! I think the majority of the folks sounded decent last night because standards can be sung by anyone.

I thought Chris R was one of the weakest along with Haley. Sanjaya still scares me, but Phil is the scariest of all with that bald head and intense eyes!

Great recap!

Standards night was my favorite night so far, probably because I’m not really that up on current music.

It was an okay night of singing, but I’m getting tired of Phil and his lovey dovey wife stuff (yeah, we know you’re married and in love with your wife. Can we please move on?); Sanjaya (please let this be the week); Haley (you’re gorgeous, you’re sexy, and everyone knows it. Now put some of your other talents to work). She bugs me the most b/c I think she’s playing the sexy vixen part up a bit too much and not showcasing her voice.

As always, great write up, S!

I’m thinking it’s Phil’s week to go. He just doesn’t seem to have a strong fan base. It won’t upset me in the least.

I want to like Melinda, and on a *singing* basis only I do, but her “aw, shucks, people really like me” routine is getting very old. They have been singing her praises for weeks now and she still acts shocked when someone says she did a good job. Humbleness is one thing, but it’s time for a new schtick.

Say what you will about LaKisha, but I still like her. I’m a sucker for a rags to riches type story (unless you’re talking about Fantasia, whom I despise).
