Thanks, ladies!

Devra, those are funny stories. I call situations like that "mommy brain". :)

Wow! So true, Catgirl.

My sister-in-law gave me a huge, huge gift while I was in my last trimester. She--very plainly--told me about her struggle with PPD with both of her children and the difference asking for help made. She didn't have anyone to tell her about PPD with her daughter, and she lived it alone. With her son, a friend asked her to seek help, and the meds made a world of difference. Her honesty (and yours) inspired me to share all the "dirty secrets" with my friends.

When my son began preschool and I got to sojourn to Target alone, I was happily pushing my cart down an aisle. A person was in my way and I said "Oh, can you please excuse us?" Um. Us? I was ALONE. No wonder I got a strange look from that person. Oops.

I also waited a really long time for a latte at Starbucks because they were calling me by my name. My real name. The one my adult friends use for me. After I went to the counter and inquired as to when my latte would be ready, the barista asked "Aren't you Devra? We've been calling you." Ooops again.
You can bet had they called out "Mommy, your latte is ready!" I would have been there in a millisecond.

I'm glad I struck a chord with a few of you. It's nice to know I'm not alone either. :)

"What really confuses me is why moms don’t talk with one another about the real stuff that goes on." - I couldn't agree more. I actually feel OBLIGED now to talk about this stuff, not to scare people off but to give them some idea of what reality will be. Great blog entry! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! No one in my mom's groups ever talks about stuff like this. It's all sunshine and rainbows with them and I feel bad complaining. Luckily my BFF and I are very "real" about what being a mom is like. And of course I have ConstantChatter as well.

"It’s okay to drive around in the car, hoping your child(ren) will magically fall asleep while you enjoy a turtle mocha."

I don't even want to admit how much gas I've wasted doing this. So glad I'm not the only one!!

I hear you, Catgirl007! I had dinner with 2 girlfriends last week who haven't had kids yet and I think they were shocked. I was brutally honest with them...the sleepless nights, the pain and recovery after delivery, the fact that I often count the hours until DH gets home. I haven't had to deal with PPD, but if I was, I'd be honest about that, too.

It's important to me to be honest with my girlfriends and make sure they know that while being a Mom is the greatest thing I've ever done....it's also the harder then I ever imagined. I wouldn't trade it for the world...but sometimes I'd like to take a Mommy vacation!!
