I've rediscovered mine in the past year or two. Whenever anyone mentions a book they like in their LJ, I just go to my library bookmark, find it, and reserve and go back to what I was doing a minute later. Then I can go to the library and just get the books on hold I love being able to look and find out online when things are due instead of keeping track of those little papers. I work at one and I can definitely say that we strive to find better and new ways to get resources in the hands of our patrons. And it's not just books - many libraries have a wealth of DVDs and videos for both adults and kids, magazines, book clubs and events. There are a ton of online resources that can improve your library membership so take a gander at your library's web site. Even look at area colleges and universities because many offers books to local neighbors. Also check out http://www.librarything.com/ to catalog your own books or books you've read. I go online, tell them what books I want. When they show up at the library of my choice, they send me an email, and I go down and pick them up. For FREE! In part, we bought our house because it is only 1 mile from the library - and the library was built in the late 90's so it's pretty modern. With a daughter now, the library is even more useful for us. We're probably there at least twice a week (for storytime, for the toys and puzzles they have, and for just wandering around) and she's only 2. I'm sure we'll be there much more in the future. We also buy a lot of our books now from library sales. My memories of taking books out of the library and going to library sales with my father are precious to me.
