Kopper - You don't need a ton of knowledge to get started! I've found that pockets diapers are what works best for our family, others find prefolds and covers work best. Check out the cloth diapering thread if you want more information - and don't hesitate to ask questions! :) http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23830

Maplekitty - I wash every 2-3 days. I have over 30 pocket diapers though (FuzziBunz). I change DD every few hours as well, usually going through about 8-10 diapers in 24 hours. We do nekkid time every day, usually twice a day, which would add two more pockets (instead, I just lay her on prefolds and toss them in the bucket after she pees).

Good article!

I thought I'd add, for anyone who may be curious but intimidated by washing them yourself, that we we lucky enough to find a great diaper service in our area. They use reduced load washers, recycle their water, use biodegradable detergents, no chemicals, and it costs only 2 cents more per diaper than disposables do. It's not as cost effective as washing your own, but in our case it's more ecologically conscious and I'd rather my money go to this local company. So many people have old-fashioned ideas about diaper services, but it's worth looking into, IMO.

CDs are so cute! I really wanted to CD but DH was firmly against it. Also, it seems so overwhelming all the choices, styles etc that are out there. How much do you have to know to get started? I think I'm going to try talking DH into CD for the next babe.

How many do you need to start? Do you have to change the entire diaper each time, because I change my DD's diaper...like....every few hours. Would that mean you're doing a load of diaper wash every night?
And most importantly, to quell my curiosity, how do you clean the poopies????
